Railway Steel For Sale — UIC, AREMA, BS, GB & JIS Standards
Gnee Rail manufactures high-strength steel rails for national railways, mining, ports, and industrial facilities. Annual capacity exceeds 100,000 tons. From 8 kg/m light rail to 75 kg/m heavy rail — in stock and ready to ship.
The Foundation of Every Railway Line in the World
Railway steel — also called rail steel or railroad steel — is specially made high-strength steel formed into rails. These rails are placed in two parallel lines on the ground. Trains and heavy vehicles roll on top of them every day.
Normal building steel cannot survive the massive weight of a loaded freight train. This is why railway steel is different. It is made with a precise mix of carbon (0.40%–0.82%), manganese (0.70%–1.70%), and other elements that give it the strength, hardness, and toughness needed for heavy traffic and long service life.
Good railway steel must handle enormous loads, resist surface wear from wheels, survive temperature changes, and be easy to weld into seamless track. All of these requirements are built into each Gnee Rail steel rail through strict manufacturing controls.

Gnee Rail steel meets the requirements of EN 13674-1 (which superseded UIC 860 & BS 11), AREMA, GB/T 2585, and JIS and other major international standards. Mill Test Certificates are issued for every batch.
3 Steel Types — Each Built for a Different Purpose
Choosing the wrong rail type increases maintenance costs and shortens track life. Here is how to understand the difference.
Carbon Rail Steel
The most widely used type. Made with carbon (0.40%–0.82%) and manganese. It is strong, affordable, and performs well on standard freight and passenger routes. Grade: U71Mn, R260.
Best for: General railway lines, regional freight
Alloy Rail Steel
Extra elements (vanadium, chromium, titanium) are added to the base steel. These additions make the rail harder and more wear-resistant. Ideal for sharp curves and heavy-haul lines. Grade: U75V, R350HT.
Best for: Heavy-haul, sharp curves, high-traffic areas
Heat-Treated Rail Steel
After rolling, this steel goes through a special controlled heating and cooling process. Gnee Rail uses China's first "online residual heat quenching + offline full-length heat treatment" process. Rail head hardness reaches 260–300 HBW, which is 40% more wear-resistant than traditional methods.
Best for: High-speed rail, heavily loaded main lines

Weight Per Meter (kg/m) — The Most Important Spec to Know Before You Buy
Rail weight determines how heavy a load the track can safely support. Here is a quick guide. Gnee Rail supplies all weight categories.
Used in underground mines, open-pit mines, factory floors, ports, and small industrial transport lines. Affordable and easy to handle on site.
Used for regional passenger lines, urban transit, and moderate-load freight routes. A versatile standard option for modern transit.
The standard for national railway mainlines, heavy freight corridors, and high-speed rail. Gnee Rail ships 100,000+ tons of heavy rail every year.
Specially engineered for overhead cranes, gantry cranes, and shipyard equipment. Wide base, high manganese steel, heavy-load tolerance.
6-Step Process — From Raw Iron Ore to Finished Steel Rail
Understanding how railway steel is made explains why quality varies between suppliers. At Gnee Rail, each step is controlled precisely to produce rails that meet international mechanical standards.
Iron ore is melted in a Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF). Oxygen is blown into the liquid iron to remove harmful impurities like sulfur and phosphorus.
Precise amounts of carbon, manganese, vanadium, or chromium are added to achieve the target grade. This step defines the steel's mechanical properties.
Vacuum degassing removes internal gases, while continuous casting forms the liquid steel into solid "blooms" with a dense and consistent internal structure.
Massive steel rollers press the hot blooms through a series of passes until they form the classic "T-section" shape of a railway rail — head, web, and base.
Heat-treated rails go through controlled quenching and tempering after rolling. This makes the rail head significantly harder — reaching 260–300 HBW for Gnee Rail's premium grades.
Each rail is mechanically straightened to tight tolerances. Every batch is tested in our laboratory. SGS or BV third-party inspection is available on request.

Key Properties to Check Before You Buy
When you receive a quote from any rail supplier, always ask for the Mill Test Certificate (MTC). It shows the actual chemical composition and mechanical test results for your specific batch.
Tensile Strength
How much pulling force the steel can handle before it breaks. Higher values mean the rail can carry heavier trains over longer periods without failure.
Surface Hardness (HBW)
How well the rail surface resists wear from train wheels. Standard rails: 260–300 HBW. Gnee's heat-treated heavy rail reaches up to 390 HBW — significantly extending service life.
Yield Strength
The stress level at which the steel starts to change shape permanently. A high yield strength means the rail will not bow or twist under heavy freight trains.
Weldability
Most modern railways weld individual rails end-to-end into seamless (continuous welded rail) track. Gnee Rail steel is manufactured with low S/P levels to ensure clean, crack-free welds.

What Buyers Ask Before Placing Their First Order
Yes, they refer to the same product. "Railway" is standard in British English, while "Railroad" is commonly used in American English. Both refer to the steel rail used for train tracks.
No. Gnee Rail supplies 100% brand-new steel rails only. We do not deal in scrap metal or used rails. This ensures the structural safety and reliability of every railway project we supply.
For samples and small test orders: 1–5 tons. For standard commercial orders: typically 20–100 tons. For large infrastructure projects we accept orders in the thousands of tons range.
The standard shipping length is 5.8 meters or 12 meters, which fits in standard 20-foot or 40-foot shipping containers. We can also supply longer lengths shipped via bulk break vessels for large projects.
Well-maintained railway steel lasts 30–50 years on low-traffic lines. On busy freight routes, rails may need replacement every 10–15 years due to constant wear. Heat-treated rails significantly extend service life.
We provide: Mill Test Certificate (MTC) with chemical and mechanical data, ISO 9001:2015 certificate, Certificate of Origin, and SGS/BV third-party inspection reports on request. All documents are in English.
